UniCare HSA-Compatible Plans

With competitive rates, extensive PPO networks and quality benefit designs, UniCare is our most recommended health insurance company for Health Savings Account (HSA)-compatible plans.

HSA-Compatible Plan Choices

UniCare provides the following HSA-compatible health insurance options for individuals, families and self-employed persons residing in Illinois:

  • We consider this plan an optimal choice for HSA-compatible coverage.  Each year, UniCare adjusts the deductible to match the maximum IRS-allowed annual contribution to an HSA.  After satisfaction of the deductible, the plan provides 100% network coverage.
    2007 Benefits include:
       - $2850 single deductible
       - $5650 family deductible
       - 100% network coverage
       - $10/$30/$50 co-pay Rx card*
  • UniCare adjusts this plan to match each year's minimum HSA-compatible plan deductible.  Frankly, we don't see much of a need for an HSA-compatible plan with such a low deductible, but it's a UniCare offering, so we mention it.
    2007 Benefits include:
       - $1100 single deductible
       - $2200 family deductible
       - 80% network coverage
       - $10/$30/$50 co-pay Rx card*
  • The deductibles for this plan are fixed.  This is a lower cost alternative for someone who wants a deductible near the HSA contribution maximum.  Benefit include:
       - $2600 single deductible
       - $5200 family deductible
       - 80% network coverage
       - $10/$30/$50 co-pay Rx card*
  • The deductibles for this plan are also fixed.  This is a great plan for people who are comfortable with a "higher" high-deductible plan that is HSA-compatible.  Benefits include:
       - $5000 single deductible
       - $10,000 family deductible
       - 100% network coverage
       - $10/$30/$50 co-pay Rx card*
No Durational Rating

Most health insurers charge lower rates for new customers and higher rates for their longer-term customers.  This is known as durational rating, and UniCare doesn't do it.

In determining rate adjustments, UniCare makes no distinctions based on how long a policy has been in effect.  This translates into superior long-term relative cost stability for UniCare clients.

Outstanding PPO Networks

In Illinois, UniCare customers can utilize providers in the UniCare Classic Network or in the HealthLink network (mostly downstate providers), both of which are owned by UniCare.

Not only do UniCare HSA-compatible plan customers get an extensive choice of PPO providers, they also pay less for health care services.  This is a result of the extensive discounts negotiated with participating physicians and hospitals.
