UniCare's processing of dental applications is a lot faster than their processing of medical applications, because all dental applications from eligible applicants are approved. A complete dental application should not take more than a few business days for UniCare to process.
When you intend to purchase UniCare dental combined with UniCare medical coverage, your dental insurance will not begin until the start of your UniCare medical plan.
The medical/dental insurance start date could be on any day of the month -- depending on the effective date you've indicated on the medical application and how long it takes UniCare to process the application.
Underwriting of UniCare medical applications can take several weeks or longer (same as any other individual health insurer), though some are approved very quickly.
If you are buying only UniCare PPO dental insurance, your coverage effective date will always be the first day of the month following processing of your application, which can take a few days.
Therefore, if you want UniCare stand-alone dental coverage to begin as soon as possible, get the application to us at least a week prior to the end of the month -- giving UniCare administration ample processing time.
If you want to apply for stand-alone UniCare dental insurance, use the UniCare dental application form, which you can access via links in the left column of this page. DO NOT use the UniCare medical insurance application if you only want dental insurance. You'll be wasting time and, perhaps, delaying the start of your dental coverage.
