In Illinois HumanaOne exclusively offers Health Savings Account (HSA)-compatible plans with a 100% network benefit, which is what the large majority of HSA customers prefer. Coverage is offered with the same dental, life and supplemental accident insurance options available with HumanaOne's non-HSA plans for Illinois residents.
In Illinois HumanaOne has two distinct HSA-compatible products: The HumanaOne Enhanced HSA 100% Plan and the HumanaOne HSA 100% Plan. Both provide single person deductibles from $1,500 to $5,950 and cumulative family deductibles from $3,000 to $11,900. Both plans provide 100% benefits, utilize the Humana ChoicePOS PPO network, waive the deductible for preventive care and have an unlimited maximum benefits. So what is the difference?
The difference is that the "Enhanced" plan provides insurance coverage for prescriptions. The "non-Enhanced" plan does not. Instead of insurance for prescriptions, the HSA 100% plan provides a Rx discount card. This allows Humana to price the HSA 100% plan about seven percent below an Enhanced HSA 100% plan with the same deductible.
Frankly, as a professional insurance broker we are not going to recommend that any client omit prescription coverage from their health insurance. But HumanaOne has made this option available for those who are comfortable assuming such risk in exchange for the premium reduction.
