Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois continues to update their Health Savings Account (HSA)-compatible products, allowing greater benefit design customization leading to more affordable options. In purchasing a BCSIL BlueEdge Individual HSA health insurance plan you can evaluate five different deductible options and choose from two coverage levels. In addition, you can purchase any of these combinations with either of two different doctor/hospital networks:
PPO (Participating Provider Options)
This is the giant Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois network which includes 90% of Illinois doctors and over 200 Illinois hospitals.
The BlueChoice network provides more restricted choice of doctors and hospitals, and BlueEdge HSA plans with this feature reflect about a 10% pricing discount. However, before you purchase a BlueEdge HSA plan with the BlueChoice network you should check the BlueChoice directory to verify inclusion of the physicians and hospitals you are likely to use.
Optional Dental Insurance Plan
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois BlueEdge Individual HSA clients also have the option of adding a dental insurance plan, which is not available on a stand-alone basis.
These Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Health Savings Account (HSA) plan options are offered along with six traditional PPO health insurance products. Here is how the benefits compare:
The BlueEdge Individual HSA provides you a choice of four deductibles combined with a choice of 100% or 80% network coverage. Any of these combinations can be paired with either the BCBSIL PPO network or with the more restrictive BlueChoice network (10% price reduction for BlueChoice). That works out to 16 distinct benefit design choices over a wide range of risk preferences and prices.
The BlueEdge Individual HSA 5000 is the highest deductible option ($5,000 for an individual policy and $10,000 for a family policy) and is only offered with the 100% network benefit option. However, you have the choice of getting BlueEdge Individual HSA 5000 with either the PPO network or with the BlueChoice network (10% price reduction).
