In order of most generous benefits to least generous benefits (and most expensive to least expensive), these are the traditional PPO health insurance plans from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois:
Designed for the more budget-minded, the "Advantage" plans are modified versions of the SelectBlue and BlueValue plans described above.
The "Advantage" plans save you about 10% compared to SelectBlue and BlueValue, but include increased potential out-of-pocket expense of $2000/year per individual and $6000/year per family.
The "BlueChoice" plans look a lot like the "Advantage" plans, but the "BlueChoice" plans cost less because they feature a reduced network of physicians and hospitals -- the "BlueChoice" Network.
So don't be misled by the "BlueChoice" name. In comparison to the other BCBSIL products, These plans actually reduce your choices.
Because of network limitations, the BlueChoice plans are not appropriate for all Illinois residents. These products are basically for residents of Illinois metropolitan areas, including Chicago, Rockford and Springfield.
If, in order to minimize your health insurance cost, you're willing to do without coverage for most outpatient services and prescriptions, this may be the BCBSIL plan for you.
Insuring over 4 million Illinois residents, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is the state's oldest and largest health insurance company, with a six-decade tradition of providing high-quality, affordable healthcare plans.
Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), a Mutual Legal Reserve Company, does business through its corporate divisions, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association licenses Health Care Service Corporation to offer certain products and services under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield brand names.
