Policy Duration Options
If you know exactly how long you'll need short-term coverage, you can buy it for the exact number of required days (minimum 30 day purchase). This "lump sum" protection is available for up to 365 days in Illinois and for up to 185 days in Indiana. This is the most economical way to buy short-term medical insurance.
If you don't know exactly how long you'll need the coverage, you can purchase it in monthly increments for up to 12 monthly payments (Illinois only) or for up to 6 monthly payments (Illinois and Indiana). Buying in monthly increments costs a little more than buying "lump sum," but for people in less certain health insurance circumstances, the added flexibility is worth the additional cost, which is about 20%.

If you purchase Assurant short-term medical online, you can pay with either a credit card or by automatic bank account debit. If you complete the paper application form and mail it to us, you can pay by check or by credit card.
Application Fee
A $20 non-refundable application fee applies to all Illinois and Indiana policies. The fee applies to short-term medical policies of all durations and applies whether the application is submitted over the internet or through the mail.
